RC How To:

Shock Maintenance - Fix Leaky Shocks

Have you ever seen a car bouncing down the road? It hits a bump and keeps bouncing. This is a sign that their shocks are shot. The same thing happens to RC cars when the oil leaks out of the shocks. You will end up with no damper.

I noticed that my SC10 was jumping and handling a little funny. I even saw the front end bouncing around on the rough terrain, so I thought I'd take a look at the shocks.

As you can see these are very dirty and appear to be leaking oil. Below you can see a quick movie and example of what happens when you have no oil in the shocks.

You can see the tires bounce and actually come off the workbench. This has no damper, just spring bounce.
